National Fox Hunts - October 29 - November 5, 2005

The National Fox Hunt Association held its annual Fox Hunt in Grenada October 24 through October 30, 2004.  Hunters will come from as far as Illinois and even Orlando, Florida to participate in the 84th Chase Futurity and the 110th  National Foxhunt - All Age the last week of October.  Events for the week involving the 1,200 dogs participating, will be a three day hunt for each class and a Bench Show on Sunday, October 24th, 2004 at the Grenada City Auditorium.
 
   
The Chase Futurity was held Monday through Wednesday with the casting of the hounds at daybreak each morning.  The Chase Futurity is a class of hounds ranging in ages 2 years old and under.  The National - All Age Fox Hunt was held Thursday through Saturday mornings with the casting beginning at daybreak as well.  The National Fox Hunt is an all age competition and is said to be the Super Bowl of Fox Hunts. 
           
Awards are strictly silver for both, with no cash being exchanged for winning.  However, the winner of the 2004 National Fox Hunt could be sold for as much as $15,000 to $20,000.  Hounds are scored on trailing, hunting, speeding and driving, and endurance. 
           
The 1997 Master of Hounds stated, “This is the best place in the country to have a fox hunt.  It’s like God made it strictly for foxhunting.”  The 2004 NFH was held at Carver’s Point at Grenada Lake.  “This was be the 12th year to have the National Hunt here in Grenada.  With an estimated economic impact of over $2.5 million dollars, we hope very much to have them back for a 13th year,” stated Brandi Leggett Brown, Director of the Grenada Tourism Commission.
