Director’s October 2014 Article
While the most publicized Chamber event recently was certainly this year’s wonderful Downtown Jubilee, many other positive developments have been occurring in our community. For instance, the 2014-2015 class of Leadership Grenada held its Kickoff Retreat at Lake Tiak O’Khata August 15th and 16th with a fantastic-as-always workshop led by Daniel Vassal of Clarksdale. The group’s first local workshop was held on September 18th, with sessions led by Neddie Winters of Mission Mississippi and our own Chief of Police Ben Williams and Dr. Sidney Bondurant. Many thanks to Comfort Inn and Suites for hosting and to High on the Hog for providing lunch for this workshop.

After 25 years at their original location, John and Cheryl Cravens have moved Allen’s Fine Jewelry to a beautiful new building located prominently on Sunset Drive. John and Cheryl hosted a very well-attended VIP Open House on August 14th, and the next day the Chamber assisted with a Ribbon Cutting for the new site and presented the June 2014 Shining Star Award to Allen’s Fine Jewelry in honor of their many years of commitment to the Grenada Area. Later that same day, we joined Karen Simms at the new location of her store The Crate, also on Sunset Drive.

The fun continues as we welcome the 14th annual Salute to Industry Golf Tournament October 23rd at the awesome Dogwoods Golf Course at Hugh White State Park. Natalie Bement and Dr. Jim Haffey are already hard at work organizing this year’s event, so make sure you reach out to us by October 10th if you want to sponsor or play! We are excited to once again honor the Grenada Area industries that are so critical to our economy. Please call the Chamber should you need further information.

Well, it’s October, and you know what that means – Christmas! Roger Tassin, John Cravens, and a volunteer committee are making preparations for a Holiday Experience during the weekend of November 6th through the 9th. Virginia Fulton, Kim McRee, David Melton, Jory Thompson and a volunteer committee are already in the planning phase of the 2014 Christmas Parade to be held Tuesday, December 2nd. This year’s theme is “The Greatest Gift of All.” We welcome anyone and everyone in the community to get involved in either or both of these events. We would love to have your input and ideas! Please contact the Chamber if you would like to participate in either event.
